A drunken man is accused of threatening children and later violently assaulting a female cop.
Recently, New Paltz Police responded to the Moriello Pool, located at 32 Mulberry Street in the village of New Paltz, to a report of an adult male drunk and threatening children.
The first officer who responded located the man who was extremely belligerent, uncooperative and with a 9-year-old girl, police said. The man, identified as Aidan S. Sullivan, 45, of New Paltz, is also charged with assaulting a female officer.

As the officer escorted Sullivan out of the facility, he attacked her and tackled her to the ground, punched her in the face and slammed her head into the ground, officials said. A second officer arrived at the scene and began to assist. Sullivan continued to fight with the two officers who were eventually able to stop him with the help of a third officer.
Sullivan was transported to the New Paltz Police Department for treatment, where he reportedly continued to be combative and threatened to harm members of the department.
He has been charged with assault, attempted assault, felony, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanor and disorderly conduct violation.
Sullivan was returned to Ulster County Jail in lieu of a $ 10,000 cash bond or $ 20,000 bond.
The unnamed policewoman suffered physical injuries and was treated by the New Paltz Rescue Squad. This is the fifth time in two weeks that a uniformed member of the New Paltz Police Department has been physically assaulted in the line of duty, according to police.
